Studies on the Teratogenicity of Recombinant Porcine Somatotrophin(PST)

Abstract
A teratogenicity test was carried out in Sprague-Dawley rats and New Zealand white rabbits which had been subeutaneously treated with parcine somatotrophin(PST), at dose levels of 0.015§·/150g/day, 0.15§·/150g/day and 0.3§·/150g/day far 11 days from day 7 to day 17 of gestation period in rats ar,d 13 days from day 6 to day 18 in rattits.
In rats, two-thirds of the pregnant female rats in each group were sacrificed on day 21 of gestation and their fetuses were closely examined. The remaining dams were allowed to litter naturally, and the postnatal development of off-springy was observed.
In rabbits, the pregnant female rabbits in each groin were sacrificed on day 28 of gestation and their fetuses were closely examined. No changes were observed in all aspects of parameters between groups treated with PST and negative control group in rats and rabbits.
The incidence of external, internal and skeletal anomalies were not significantly increased in all PST-treated fetuses in rats and rabbits.
Therefore, It was concluded that porcine somatotrophin have no effects on parturition, lactation arid postnatal growth and no teratogenicity in rats and rabbits.
